Pubs we have had a pint at, some favorites

O'Brien's Irish Pub and Restaurant
146 West 46th Street, New York, NY, 10036  www.obriensnyc.com

You can always spot O'Brien's by the balcony and the Irish flag out front. Once inside head to the back and up the stairs to the Sin Bin, a shrine to all things rugby including the New York Rugby Club and Munster Rugby. Ask for Cormac, (R) the manager and resident Irish slinger of blarney.

Located just a few steps from Time's Square, O'Brien's is truly in the heart of New York City. It's located on West 46th Street between Sixth Avenue or Avenue of the America's as tourists call it and Broadway. This is a great spot for a midtown lunch, a few pints after work, a cocktail before the theater or a late night spot. It's always friendly and the kitchen is open late.
O'Brien's is owned by Des O'Brien, a member of the New York Rugby Club, and it one of the club's home bars.

Upstairs in the Sin Bin, the walls are covered with jerseys from several teams while the signed All Blacks jersey may be the most impressive, my favorite it the newest one, the game jersey from the local old boys side, the Gentlemen of New York. Also on the wall is a jersey from Munster Rugby, the venerable Irish territorial side. In fact, O'Brien's is the home of the North American Rugby Supporters Club and the group holds several events there a year.

Churchill's Pub, Miami, Fl.

Churchill's makes no bones about it's menu. Dave Daniels and one of his bartenders. You can't miss Churchill's.

Churchill's A Sort of English Pub

5501 NE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33137, www.churchillspub.com

Since the early 1980's this has been the home for rugby in Miami. Founded by Dave Daniels an Englishman lost in South Florida, he created a pub that is famous for live rugby, live music and home to wayward rugby players. It is currently the home of the Miami Tridents, who have been affiliated with the club for over 20 years and now the Miami Women's Rugby Club.

Churchill's is a mix of a Florida bar, with a huge historical mural on the wall, rugby sports bar and live music venue. Churchill's features live indie music and is a major South Florida venue for indie rock bands. Most of the shows are late on weekend nights, but Thursday after practice and Saturday's after home games, you will usually find the Miami Tridents at the pool tables, having a back garden barbecue or at the bar pint in hand.

The Miami Women's RC has made Churchill's home.

Rugby Pub, New Orleans, La.

Members of the New Orleans Rugby Club gather at their bar

The Rugby Pub
2802 Bell Chase Highway, Gretna, La. www.therugbypub.com

The home of the New Orleans Rugby Club is actually located in Gretna, La., a suburb of New Orleans and right across the Mississippi River and just about 10 minutes from the French Quarter.

But the best part of the pub is the getting to know the owners. They are the members of the club, that's right, the team owns the bar. Right now they have a pretty extensive beer menu and a full bar but plans are underway to expand their bar food menu. The pub hosts the club events and a New Orleans Rugby Club party usually includes some barbecue, a big pot of gumbo or some other local specialty.

While there are a lot of sites and great bars and restaurants in New Orleans, make sure you cross the river and stop in and have a few drinks with the New Orleans Rugby Club at their bar, The Rugby Pub.
